Womans Clothing in the 1800′s?

Hey Everyone! I’ve recently started to read historical novels and in them they describe woman and their clothing very well but i just want to see exaclty what it looks like. Can anyone find me a site dedicated to womans historical clothing around that era? ive done my own searches but have only come up with half-ass costumes for costume parties and halloween. i want to see the real thing or something close to it :) I want to see what they wore everyday and what they wore to balls and parties. :) im so interested in this time period!! if anyone has any books to recommend about that time too let me know! thanks!!! The last book i read was set in 1814 :)

The “silhouette” of fashion changed greatly from the Regency period in the early 1800s to the end of the century.

The beginning of the 1800s saw women wearing simple, classical-style dresses, high-waisted with narrow skirts. These gradually widened and sleeves became “leg-’o-mutton” in the 1840s, until the crinoline came in in the middle of the century. Gradually this narrowed, and bustles at the back of the skirt became fashionable.

You can often find “coffee-table” type books in the history or reference section at your library, or buy them (rather expensive) at a good bookstore. My books on fashion history include:

“Fashion, the Mirror of History ” by Michael and Ariane Batterberry (some small errors in it)
“Costume Cavalcade” by Henny Harald Hansen
“A History of Costume in the West” by Francois Boucher (excellent)
and some smaller ones, particularly by James Laver, Agnes Allen and Iris Brooke.
