Costume Jobs Las Vegas

What is the best way to get a job in the design of the theater? In general, and in Las Vegas?
Theater I have academic experience and an academic small portfolio as a lighting designer, designer of the soundtrack, stage manager and costume designer on productions at the university, but most places seem to want experience and I've heard there is a prejudice against people with a university degree in the field.
